I think Carolina by far and away lost this deal. I mean come on -
Jordan is great but giving up Sutter (who is Jordan Staal minus the goals), Dumoulin (who played so great at the end of the season after BC was out) and the first round pick this year....
oh yeah - and Jordan has only one year on his contract and has Carolina over a barrel when it comes to negotiating.
Jim Rutherford has generally made good trades (minus Anson Carter) but this was highway robbery by Pitt. (especially if they get Parise too)
I am just shocked!! |

Think this also locks E Staal in Carolina and can potentially get them Mark Staal, tht cannot be ignored.

Last blog was posted over a month ago... sad it takes a staal trade for canes fans to actually get a blog.

Eric sometimes needs motivation. If this doesn't motivate him to compete at his highest level, nothing will. I'm excited. Go Canes! |

Sad to lose Jordan Staal, but hope he does well in Carolina. You got yourselves a quality player.
Can any of you give me any info. on Brian Dumoulin? I know a bit about Sutter, but nothing about Dumoulin.
Also, is Sutter a C or W? I've seen him listed as both and wasn't sure which was his natural role. |

Best of luck to Staal in Carolina. You got a hell of a player who should really flourish there. |

Hard to imagine JR made this move if that elephant wasn't addressed. Staal will undoubtedly be here in Raleigh long term. And he will dominate in his role as a 1-2 center. He played with pylons in Pitt (Cooke and Kennedy). If he had legitimate linemates there his numbers would have been bigger.
Good move for both clubs and props to JR for making the big move. |

I'm not sure about Dumoulin but Sutter is a C. He'll be an excellent 3rd line C for you guys. He can play extremely well in all situations. He's going to missed but J. Staal was probably worth trading him away. |

Dumoulin played for BC and is 6'4", 210 lbs. He played with Carolina in the NHL after BC was eliminated this year - 3-5 games I think. he played great and will be a force - maybe even this year.
You guys won this deal for sure.
If you just had gotten the 8th pick this year and Sutter, it would have been much more even. |

I am not sure how it is clear cut the pens won this deal...today, Staal > Sutter...and I love sutter...the other two are prospects...a 50-50 shot...
good trade, and one that today Canes win...they get a guy who can play top line minutes...Sutter is a fantastic 2/3 center, but Staal is a top line guy. |

I think youre going to be disappointed if you think Staal is a top line guy
take a look at 2010-2011, when Malkin and Crosby were out and Staal was a "Top Line Guy"
Wasn't exactly producing in bunches... |

Good trade for both sides. Pens don't lose Staal for nothing and get a decent return. Hurricanes get a powerful two way centre. Plus, how long is it now until Marc joins his brothers? |

He was playing with Mark Letestu. Even Mario couldn't make Mark Letestu productive. |

i have to agree that the cane's got the bad end of this deal. why give away so much for a player that they could have just signed next off season? do they really need him this year? What was the point if he would've just come over anyway? |

...only one more to go, you really should put together an offer and try to pry Marc away from the Rags.
Has Jared played any games for the big club yet? Will he, or his he an AHL lifer? |

...looking at it this way your kinda right, should've used suttee as the chip to help pry Marc out of NY. And yen surely Jordan would've followed after the season as a UFA, would've had them all. |

Dumoulin never played in the NHL. He was with Charlotte at the end of their season, but didn't play there either. |

very surprised to hear talks were going well between Pens and Rangers until Canes threw in a 3rd factor. As for Marc going over, relax we have him for 3 more years!!! LOL...but I think they will eventually all be together. They seem like a ight knit family and they have 3/4's of them already. How is Jordan progressing?? Don't hear much of him. We goina see him soon? Would be great to see all 4 of em on the ice when the Canes and Rangers play haha |
